‘Constitution allows me to eat meat when I like’: TMC MP Mahua Moitra on meat ban during Navaratri

On Wednesday Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra slammed the decision to ban meat shops in various parts of Delhi for the Hindu festival of Navratri.

She talked about the rights given to her by the Constitution and said that she is allowed to eat meat whenever she likes and any shopkeepers have the freedom to run their trade.

“I live in South Delhi. The Constitution allows me to eat meat when I like and the shopkeeper the freedom to run his trade. Full stop,” she said in a tweet this morning.

 

The south and east Delhi mayors on Tuesday asked meat shops in their jurisdictions to close their shops during Navratri.

The nine-day Navaratri festival is being observed from April 2 to April 11, with Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami falling on April 9, 10, and 11 respectively.

Chief of the Army Staff General Naravane discusses defence ties with Singapore defence minister

Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj M Naravane on Tuesday reviewed the Guard of Honour at Ministry of Defence in Singapore and complimented the Guard for an impeccable Turnout & Parade.

Indian Army chief General MM Naravane then called on Singaporean Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen and discussed regional geopolitical developments and re-affirmed the strong and long-standing bilateral defence relationship between the two countries.

“General MM Naravane #COAS called on Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Defence, #MINDEF, #Singapore & discussed regional geopolitical developments. The strong & long-standing bilateral defence relationship between both Nations was re-affirmed,” the Indian Army tweeted.

Chief of the Army Staff also called on Brigadier General David Neo, Chief of Army, Singapore Army and discussed the roadmap to further enhance defence cooperation between both countries.

Indian Army chief General MM Naravane then visited the Infantry Gunnery Tactical Simulator at IGTS Centre.

“Gen MM Naravane #COAS visited the Infantry Gunnery Tactical Simulator #IGTS Centre. He witnessed the state-of-the-art simulators, which enable troops to hone their weaponry skills & commanders to improve tactical decision-making abilities,” tweeted the Indian Army.

‘Stand Up India’ scheme has fulfilled aspirations of women, SCs, STs: Government

On the sixth anniversary of Stand Up India Scheme, centre claimed that the scheme has fulfilled the aspirations entrepreneurs, particularly women and Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and also sift through the achievements, salient features and enhancement to the scheme over the years.

Recognizing the challenges faced by Aspiring SC, ST, and women entrepreneurs, Stand up India Scheme was launched on 5th April 2016 to promote entrepreneurship at grassroot level focusing on economic empowerment and job creation.

In 2019-20, the Stand Up India scheme was extended for the entire period coinciding with the 15th Finance Commission period of 2020-25.

Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the scheme has facilitated more than 1.33 lakh new job-creators and entrepreneurs. She also said more than 1 lakh women promoters have benefitted from this Scheme.

Nirmala Sitharaman said, “As we commemorate the sixth anniversary of the Stand-Up India Scheme, it is heartening to see that more than 1.33 lakh new job-creators and entrepreneurs have so far been facilitated under this Scheme.”

Sitharaman further said, “More than 1 lakh women promoters have benefitted from this Scheme during its six years of operation. The Government understands the potential these rising entrepreneurs have in driving economic growth through their roles as not just wealth-creators but also job-creators.”

“The objective of Stand-Up India is to promote entrepreneurship amongst women, Scheduled Castes (SC) & Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories, to help them in starting a greenfield enterprise in manufacturing, services or the trading sector and activities allied to agriculture,” read a statement by Ministry of Finance.

Piyush Goyal begins 3-day visit to Australia, days after inking India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement

On Tuesday Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal left New Delhi on a 3-day visit to Australia. His visit comes days after India and Australia signed the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (IndAus ECTA) on Saturday, 2nd April.

ECTA is the first trade agreement of India with a developed country after more than a decade and provides for an institutional mechanism to improve trade between the two countries.

During the visit, I will take the ECTA to people, Goyal said, adding that interactions had been planned with Business leaders, Indian students, diaspora, etc.

During the visit Goyal will hold wide-ranging discussions with his Australian counterpart, Mr. Dan Tehan MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, on carrying forward the ECTA. Goyal will also hold talks with Tony Abbott, Australian PM’s Special Trade Envoy this evening.

Goyal will address a Public conversation on Wednesday with Minister Dan Tehan and Allan Myers, Chancellor, University of Melbourne, at the Melbourne Law School in The University of Melbourne.

Goyal will also visit the landmark Melbourne Cricket Ground and address the Australia-India Chamber of Commerce and Austrade, along with Dan Tehan, besides interacting with the Indian media.

Later he will visit the Shiva Vishnu Temple in Melbourne and attend a Community event with the Indian Diaspora.

On Thursday, 7th April, Goyal and Minister Dan Tehan will interact with students at the University of New South Wales in Sydney and pay tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the University campus. He will later address the Emerging Diaspora Business Leaders Reception hosted by India-Australia Business and Community Awards (IABCA). Later in the evening, Goyal, accompanied by Dan Tehan and Alex Hawke, Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, will attend a Community event at the Swaminarayan Temple in Sydney. Before leaving Sydney on Friday, 8th April, Goyal will also meet Alan Joyce, CEO & MD, Qantas Airways.

I&B Ministry Blocks 22 Youtube Channels For Spreading Disinformation

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, on Tuesday, stated that it has blocked 22 YouTube channels, three Twitter accounts, one Facebook account, and one news website for spreading disinformation related to India’s national security, foreign relations, and public order.

The blocked YouTube channels had a cumulative viewership of over 260 crore and were used to spread fake news, and coordinated disinformation over social media on subjects sensitive from the perspective of national security, India’s foreign relations, and public order.

Among the 22 YouTube channels, eighteen (18) Indian and four (4) Pakistan-based YouTube news channels have been blocked. This is the first time action has been taken against Indian YouTube-based news publishers since the notification of the IT Rules, 2021 in February last year.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, multiple YouTube channels were used to post fake news on various subjects such as the Indian Armed Forces, Jammu and Kashmir, etc. The content ordered to be blocked also included certain anti-India content posted from multiple social media accounts operated in a coordinated manner from Pakistan.

“It was observed that a significant amount of false content published by these Indian YouTube based channels related to the ongoing situation in Ukraine, and aimed at jeopardizing India’s foreign relations with other countries,” read the statement.

Since December 2021, the Ministry has issued directions for blocking of 78 YouTube based news channels and several other social media accounts on grounds related to national security, sovereignty and integrity of India, public order, etc.

The statement read, “The Government of India remains committed towards ensuring an authentic, trustworthy, and safe online news media environment, and thwart any attempts at undermining India’s sovereignty and integrity, national security, foreign relations, and public order.”

78-Year-Old Woman Transfers Her Entire Property To Rahul Gandhi

A senior citizen from Dehradun on Monday filed a testament (will) in the district court of the area, transferring all her property to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Pushpa Munjiyal, a 78-year-old woman transferred her assets of more than Rs 50 lakhs and 10 tola of gold ornaments to Rahul Gandhi.

Munjiyal said that she was greatly impressed by the vision of Rahul Gandhi for the country. She said that Rahul Gandhi is an honest man, a good person, he will use my money in the right place.

“Pushpa Munjiyal Ji has donated her entire property in the name of our leader Shri Rahul Gandhi ji, for this she has also presented a testament in Dehradun court. Many thanks to the Mother for this trust,” Bihar Congress Sevadal wrote in their official Twitter account.

President Kovind arrives in Netherlands on final leg of his 2-nation visit; names new breed of yellow tulips ‘Maitri’

On Monday afternoon President Ram Nath Kovind and First Lady Savita Kovind arrived in Amsterdam on the final part of his two-nation visit.

The presidential visit to the Netherlands comes after 34 years since the visit of President Venkataraman in 1988.

President Kovind said that it is his pleasure to be in the Netherlands. He stated that he has undertaken this State Visit on the special occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

President Kovind and First Lady Savita Kovind also visited the World famous Tulip Garden at Keukenhof.

“I am very happy to be at the Keukenhof, the garden of Europe and home to the world-famous tulips. The garden attracts millions of visitors each year and heralds the spring in the Netherlands. It showcases the Dutch expertise in horticulture which makes it as the world’s largest producer and exporter of tulips,” said President Kovind.

President Kovind named a new breed of yellow tulips ‘Maitri’ on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and the Netherlands. Maitri in Sanskrit means friendship.

“Today, a new flower will bloom for India-Netherlands relations. We are naming the tulip flower as ‘Maitri’ which in Sanskrit means friendship. I sincerely thank the Government of the Netherlands for this unique gesture and also wish to appreciate the efforts of the breeders of this beautiful new Tulip variant. It will inspire us to work towards strengthening bonds of friendship and ties between people of India and the Netherlands,” he said.

PM Modi, Amit Shah pays tribute to freedom fighter Babu Jagjivan Ram on his birth anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram Ji on his birth anniversary.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said that Babu Jagjivan Ram Ji will always be remembered by the nation for his contribution during the freedom movement and even after Independence.

“Tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram Ji on his birth anniversary. Our nation will always remember his remarkable contribution be it during the freedom movement or after Independence. He was widely admired for his administrative skills and concern for the poor,” tweeted PM Modi.

Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram Ji.

“The life of Babu Jagjivan Ram ji, synonymous with equality and struggle, was devoted to the upliftment and empowerment of the downtrodden, downtrodden and weaker sections of the society. His dedication to India’s independence and post-independence development of the nation is commendable. Salute to such a pioneer of social justice on his birth anniversary,” tweeted Amit Shah in Hindi.

Born in Bihar in 1908, Babu Jagjivan was the defence minister of India during the India-Pakistan war of 1971. Babu Jagjivan Ram was also the deputy prime minister of the country between 1977 and 1979.

During India’s Independent movement, Babu Jagjivan Ram worked towards equality for the ‘untouchables’.

‘In last 8 years, maritime sector has scaled new heights,’ says PM Modi on the occasion of National Maritime Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recalled India’s glorious maritime history on the occasion of National Maritime Day.

“Today, on National Maritime Day we recall our glorious maritime history and highlight the importance of the maritime sector towards India’s economic growth. In the last 8 years our maritime sector has scaled new heights and contributed to boosting trade and commercial activities,” tweeted PM Modi.

Stating importance of maritime sector towards India’s economic growth, PM Modi said that in the last 8 years Government of India has focussed on port-led development which is essential for economic growth and building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat. He also emphasized that Government of India is taking an adequate care to ensure the marine eco-system and diversity.

“In the last 8 years the Government of India has focussed on port-led development which includes expanding port capacities and making the existing systems even more efficient. Waterways are being harnessed to ensure Indian products get access to new markets,” wrote PM Modi in another tweet.

“While we are leveraging the maritime sector for economic progress and building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, we are also taking adequate care to ensure the marine eco-system and diversity which India is proud of is safeguarded,” Modi added.

Lok Sabha passes criminal procedure (Identification) Bill

The Lok Sabha on Monday passed the Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill to replace the Identification of Prisoners Act, 1920.

The Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill, 2022 allows law enforcement agencies to collect samples of a convict’s biometric details, such as fingerprints and iris scans as well as biological samples from convicts and other persons to help identify criminals and investigate crimes.

The bill applies to anyone who has been convicted under any law or is arrested for any offence or is detained under any preventive detention law.

The data collected will be retained for 75 years from the date of collection.

“The whole world is using databases we should too. As long as we continue to follow the same old path, we will also have to move forward with the times,” Union home minister Amit Shah said.

“I believe that delayed justice is of no use. The guilty should be punished on time and justice is done only then the rule of law will be established,” added Amit Shah.

He took a dig at Opposition party leaders who expressed concern about possible human rights violations due to the bill and said that some people are only concerned about the criminals.

“Those who are crying for human rights regarding The Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill, 2022, I ask them that those who are harassed by criminals do not have human rights? You are only concerned about the criminals, Modi government is concerned about the people who live on the basis of law,” said the Union Minister.
