West Bengal Government Lifts Covid Restrictions, Mask Use To Continue

On Thursday the West Bengal government has revoked all Covid-19 related restrictions from today.

On Thursday Nabanna issued a notification that the curbs are being withdrawn in West Bengal.

“It is hereby notified that restrictions as currently in force by aforesaid orders are hereby withdrawn,” read the notification

The withdrawal of the restrictions came almost two years after the pandemic struck in March 2020.

However, wearing of the mask at all times, hand hygiene and sanitization of public places is still mandatory.

“However, advisory in respect of health and hygiene protocols including wearing of mask at all times, hand hygiene and sanitization of public places shall continue to be strictly observed until further orders.”, the notification stated.

Employers, owners, supervisors of all offices, establishments and work places shall be responsible for provisioning of all COVID safety measures including regular sanitization of work places and COVID appropriate norms.

District administration, police commissionerates and local authorities shall ensure strict compliance of health and hygiene protocols and advisory on COVID appropriate behaviour.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Meets EAM S Jaishankar

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is on an official visit to New Delhi.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister for talks on 1 April 2022. Both Ministers assessed the overall state of cooperation.

They both considered the implications of recent developments on trade and economic relations. Jaishankar underlined that as a developing economy, global volatility in different domains is of particular concern to India.

The two Ministers discussed developments pertaining to Ukraine. Minister Lavrov briefed the Indian side from Russia’s perspective, including the ongoing talks.

EAM Jaishankar emphasised the importance of cessation of violence and ending hostilities.

Both the Ministers discussed the situation in Afghanistan and Minister Lavrov conveyed his assessment of the recent conference on Afghanistan in China.

Russian Foreign Minister will also call on Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi later during the day.

GST collections touches all-time high in March at Rs 1.42 lakh crore

The gross GST revenue collected in the month of March 2022 is Rs 1.42 lakh crore (1,42,095 crore). The gross GST collection in March 2022 is all time high breaching earlier record of Rs 1,40,986 crore collected in the month of January 2022.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Finance, the revenues for the month of March 2022 are 15% higher than the GST revenues in the same month last year and 46% higher than the GST revenues in March 2020.

During the month, revenues from import of goods was 25% higher and the revenues from the domestic transaction (including import of services) are 11% higher than the revenues from these sources during the same month last year.

Total number of e-way bills generated in the month of February 2022 is 6.91 crore as compared to 6.88 crore e-way bills generated in the month of January 2022 despite being a shorter month, which indicates recovery of business activity at faster pace, said the Ministry of Finance.

The average monthly gross GST collection for the last quarter of the FY 2021-22 has been ₹ 1.38 lakh crore against the average monthly collection of ₹ 1.10 lakh crore, ₹ 1.15 lakh crore and 1.30 lakh crore in the first, second and third quarters respectively.

Coupled with economic recovery, anti-evasion activities, especially action against fake billers have been contributing to the enhanced GST, the Ministry said.

The improvement in revenue has also been due to various rate rationalization measures undertaken by the Council to correct inverted duty structure.

Pariksha Pe Charcha 2022: Don’t force your ‘unfulfilled’ dreams on students, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with students, teachers and parents in Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC), on Friday at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi.

PM Modi talked about New Education Policy (NEP) and said that it is a ‘National’ Education Policy and not a ‘New’ Education Policy. He said that the policy was drafted after a lot of brainstorming with various stakeholders.

“Consultation for National Education Policy has been exhaustive. People across India were consulted on this” he said.

He said that the 20th century education system and ideas can not determine our development trajectory in the 21st century. He further said that we would be left out and go back if we don’t evolve with the changing systems.

He said that National Education Policy gives the opportunity to follow one’s passion and stressed the importance of skill along with knowledge.

He said that’s the reason to include skills as part of the National Education Policy.

PM Modi asked the parents and teachers not to force their unfulfilled dreams on the students.

“Unfulfilled dreams of teachers and parents cannot be forced on students. It is important for every child to follow their own dreams” said the Prime Minister.

He urged the parents and teachers to accept that every student has some special ability and to discover that.

Pariksha Pe Charcha is an annual event in which the Prime Minister interacts with students and responds to questions related to examination stress and studies.

Commercial LPG price hiked by Rs 250 per cylinder from today

On Friday the prices of commercial Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) which are used by commercial establishments were hiked by ₹250 per cylinder. And the new rate will be effective from today.

The price of a 19-kg commercial cooking gas cylinder in the national capital went up to ₹2,253 from 2003.50.

In Kolkata, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder went up to Rs 2,351 from Rs 2087. In Mumbai and Chennai, the prices went up to Rs 2,205 and 2,406 respectively.

On March 22 the cost of domestic LPG cylinder was hiked by Rs 50. In Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and other cities this is the first hike since October 6, 2021.

In the national capital, the rate of a 14.2 kg non-subsidised domestic LPG cylinder was increased from Rs 899.50 to Rs 949.5. In Kolkata and Mumbai a 14.2-kg non-subsidised LPG cylinder went up to cost Rs 976 and Rs 949.50 respectively.

External affairs minister Jaishankar defends India on Russian oil import

External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Thursday defended India’s decision to import energy supplies from Russia in a conversation with his British counterpart Liz Truss at the India-UK Strategic Futures Forum.

When Truss was asked about UK’s reaction on India purchasing discounted Russian oil, she said, “India is a sovereign nation; I am not going to tell India what to do what I have said is as a member of the UK government that is signed up to the Budapest Memorandum I feel a strong responsibility on behalf of the united kingdom to take all the action we can for the people of Ukraine and that is not the same as going around and telling other countries what to do.”

Jaishankar said that in the month of March Europe has bought 15 per cent more oil and gas from Russia than it did the month before.

Jaishankar said, “I was reading a report that in the month of March Europe has bought, I think 15 per cent more oil and gas from Russia than it did the month before. If you look at the major buyers of oil and gas from Russia, I think you will find most of them in Europe.”

He added, “We ourselves get the bulk of our energy supplies from the Middle East, about 7.5 – 8 per cent oil from the US and in the past maybe less than a per cent from Russia earlier.”

He further added that it’s natural for any country to look for a good deal when the oil prices go up.

“When oil prices go up its natural for a country to go out into the market and look for what are good deals for their people but I am pretty sure if we wait two or three months and actually look who are the big buyers of Russian gas and oil I suspect the list won’t be very different than it used to be and I suspect we won’t be in the top10 in that list,” Jaishankar further added.

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udan Akademi completes highest ever flying hours

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udan Akademi(IGRUA), India’s largest flying academy, has completed the target of 19,000 flying hours in 2021-22.IGRUA completed a total of 19,110 flying hours in financial year 2021-22 which is highest since its establishment in 1986, said the Ministry of Civil Aviation in a statement.

The highest flying hours completed before this were 18,776 in 2013-14 but with a fleet of 24 aircraft as compared to the current fleet of 18 aircraft.

IGRUA’s per aircraft utilisation in 2021-22 is 1062 hours per annum. This is the first time in IGRUA’s history that IGRUA has crossed the magic figure of 1000 hours per aircraft per annum.

The previous highest was 782 hours per aircraft per annum in 2013-14.

In 2020-21, IGRUA completed 13,282 flying hours and produced 62 Commercial Pilot License (CPL) holders, despite the severe disruption caused by Covid-19. The performance was quite comparable to the pre-Covid year 2019-20 when IGRUA completed 14,830 hours and produced 67 CPL holders.

IGRUA is likely to complete 20,000 flying hours in 2022-23.

Law Minister Kiren Rijiju launches new revamped website of Department of Justice

The Department of Justice has on Wednesday launched a newly revamped website.

The website will provide a one-stop platform where citizens can access information of proceedings, orders, case status & livestream hearings.

The revamped website was inaugurated by Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju at an event held at Jaisalmer Bhawan on Wednesday.

“Implementing PM Narendra Modi Ji’s vision to make Justice accessible to all, proud to launch the revamped website of the Department of Justice. With doj.gov.in any citizen can access complete information about proceedings, orders, cases and the Livestream of hearings,” Rijiju tweeted after launching the website.

The new website is launched on S3WaaS platform (Secure, Scalable and Sugamya Website as a Service). It leverages technology to generate secure websites using GIGW (Guidelines for Government Websites) compliant templates which are highly customizable and can seamlessly be deployed on a scalable software defined infrastructure. Using this platform, the website has now been made more user friendly, it can be easily edited and it is a move towards uniformity. Thereby, ensuring transparency, accessibility and seamless dissemination of information to the public and a large step towards doorstep delivery of services.

Govt to reduce disturbed areas under AFSPA in Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, says Amit Shah

The Government of India on Thursday has decided to reduce disturbed areas under Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the states of Nagaland, Assam and Manipur after decades, said Home Minister in a series of tweet.

The Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 is an act of Parliament that gives the armed forces the power to maintain public order in “disturbed areas”.

“In a significant step, GoI under the decisive leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji has decided to reduce disturbed areas under Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the states of Nagaland, Assam and Manipur after decades,” tweeted Amit Shah.

 

Amit Shah said the decision is a result of consistent efforts and several agreements to end insurgency.

“Reduction in areas under AFSPA is a result of the improved security situation and fast-tracked development due to the consistent efforts and several agreements to end insurgency and bring lasting peace in North East by PM Narendra Modi government,” Amit Shah said in a tweet.

He congratulated the people of North East and called it a ‘momentous occasion’.

“Thanks to PM Narendra Modi Ji’s unwavering commitment, our North-Eastern region, which was neglected for decades is now witnessing a new era of peace, prosperity and unprecedented development. I congratulate the people of North East on this momentous occasion,” said Amit Shah in another tweet.
