Ministry of Defence approves 21 new Sainik schools

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approved the setting up of 21 new Sainik Schools, in partnership with NGOs, private schools or State Governments. These schools will be set up in the initial round of the Government’s initiative of setting up 100 new Sainik schools across the country and will be distinct from the existing Sainik Schools.

“The objectives behind Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of setting up of 100 new Sainik Schools is to provide quality education to the students in tune with National Education Policy and give them better career opportunities, including joining the Armed Forces. It also gives an opportunity to the private sector to work hand-in-hand with the Government towards nation building by refining today’s youth to become responsible citizens of tomorrow,” read the statement released by the Ministry of Defence.

According to the statement of the Defence Ministry, the new sainik schools will be affiliated to their respective education boards but will be under the aegis of Sainik Schools Society. The schools will also follow the Rules and Regulations prescribed by the Society. In addition to their regular affiliated board curriculum, they will also impart education of Academic PLUS curriculum to the students of Sainik school pattern.

Admission in these schools will be at class VI level and at least 40 percent of intake in class VI will be from candidates who have qualified for the All-India Sainik School Entrance Examination (AISSEE) conducted by NTA through E-Counselling. And up to 60 percent intake will be from students enrolled in the same school and desirous of taking admission under this vertical of new Sainik Schools through a qualifying test. A notification with detailed instructions will be issued separately.

“Candidates qualified in All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination -2022 are being informed at their registered email id with NTA, regarding the opening of new approved Sainik Schools and the procedure for applying in these Schools,” read the statement.

PM Modi Lauds as Ayush Ministry signs agreement with WHO for global centre of traditional medicine

On Friday the Indian Ministry of Ayush signed the host country agreement with the WHO for establishing the WHO global centre for traditional medicine in India at Jamnagar, Gujarat.

“The Ministry of Ayush has today signed the Host Country Agreement with the World Health Organisation for establishing WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) in India at Jamnagar, Gujarat, with its interim office at the Institute of Training and Research in Ayurveda in Gujarat,” the ministry said in a tweet.

“The primary objective of GCTM is to harness the potential of traditional medicine from across the world through modern science and technology and improve overall health of the communities’ world over,” said the Ministry in another tweet.

And on Saturday Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted to this and conveyed India’s happiness to be the home of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Global Centre for traditional medicine.

Replying to the tweets of the Ayush Ministry the Prime Minister said, “India is honoured to be home to a state-of-the-art WHO global centre for traditional medicine. This centre will contribute towards making a healthier planet and leveraging our rich traditional practices for global good.”

Government Extends Free Ration Scheme Till September

On Saturday, the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has extended the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) scheme for another six months i.e., till September 2022 (Phase VI). The scheme was initially about to end in March 2022.

According to a statement by the cabinet, the Government has spent approximately Rs. 2.60 Lakh Crore so far and another Rs. 80,000 Crore will be spent over the next 6 months till September 2022 taking the total expenditure under PM-GKAY to nearly Rs. 3.40 Lakh Crore.

The scheme will cover nearly 80 crore beneficiaries across India and like before would be fully funded by the Government of India.

Under the extended PM-GKAY each beneficiary will get an additional 5 kg free ration per person per month in addition to his normal quota of food grains under the NFSA.

“It is worth highlighting that the Government had allocated about 759 LMT of free foodgrains under the PM-GKAY till Phase V. With another 244 LMT of free foodgrains under this extension (Phase VI), the aggregate allocation of free foodgrains under the PM-GKAY now stand at 1,003 LMT of foodgrains,” read the statement.

Soon after the decision by the Cabinet, Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal said under the world’s biggest security program Modi government ensured that no one goes hungry.

“Under the world’s biggest food security program, the Modi government has ensured that the stove of every poor remains burning and no one goes hungry. The extension of PMGKAY till September 2022 by the Modi government despite the end of Kovid shows their sensitivity towards the poor,” tweeted Piyush Goyal in Hindi.

Yogi Adityanath takes oath as UP CM for record second consecutive term

On Friday Yogi Adityanath took oath as the Uttar Pradesh chief minister for the second consecutive term at a mega event at Lucknow’s Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak were also sworn in as deputy UP chief ministers.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and many other dignitaries.

Yogi Adityanath has become the first chief minister of Uttar Pradesh in 37 years to return to power.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated Yogi Adityanath and tweeted, “Hearty congratulations to Shri Yogi Adityanath for taking oath again as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. With the inspiration of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and under the leadership of Yogiji, the resolve to build a new and developed Uttar Pradesh should be fulfilled in the next 5 years, this is my best wishes to him.”

The BJP-led alliance won a total of 273 seats out of 403 seats which is way past the required mark of 202 seats, while the alliance led by the main opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) bagged 125 seats.

President Ram Nath Kovind presents President’s Colour to INS Valsura

The honour bestowed upon INS Valsura establishment today comes with added responsibilities and has enhanced the expectations from all officers, men and women of this unit. He expressed confidence that they would continue to strive for excellence and serve the nation with professionalism and dedication.

The Indian Navy over the years has emerged as a combat ready, credible and cohesive force, and is the ‘Preferred Security Partner’ in the Indian Ocean Region, said the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.

The President noted that the Indian Navy is continuously enhancing its strength keeping in mind the long term perspective plans and towards meeting the expanding range of missions.

He expressed confidence that INS Valsura would continue to equip the officers and sailors with the requisite skill-set to ensure combat worthiness of complex weaponry, electronics and IT equipment fitted onboard ships and submarines.

Coronation Bridge Blast: Line Producer Of Web Series Arrested, Sevoke Outpost OC Removed From Duty

On Thursday as a part of the shooting of a web series a film production company orchestrated a blast without official permission in an old truck on the 80-year-old Sevoke’s Coronation Bridge, around 20km from here. Local people panicked to witness the vehicle bursting into flames with thick black smoke in the bridge.

Kalimpong district police started a case against the film production company and according to sources, the line producer of the series has been arrested. The line producer will be produced at Kalimpong court on Friday.

Meanwhile, the OC of the Sevoke outpost has been removed from duty by the Darjeeling district police.

India And UK Conclude Second Round Of Talks For Free Trade Agreement

On Thursday 17 March 2022, the Republic of India and the United Kingdom concluded the second round of talks for an India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

A delegation of Indian officials undertook technical talks in London. The negotiations were conducted in a hybrid fashion, with some negotiators in a dedicated UK negotiations facility, and others attending virtually.

For this round of negotiations, draft treaty text was shared and discussed across most chapters that will make up the agreement.  Technical experts from both sides came together for discussions in 64 separate sessions covering 26 policy areas.

The third round of negotiations is due to be hosted by India in April 2022.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurates BRO website to promote tourism in border areas

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Tourism portal in New Delhi on Thursday, March 24. The website aims to facilitate e-booking of guided tours to the road infrastructure projects constructed by the BRO.

The website contains photos and video galleries of tourist destinations and local flora & fauna, besides providing information about the BRO, the nature of works it has executed in border states and the challenges faced.

In the initial phase, only e-Booking for a guided tour to Atal Tunnel, Rohtang will be available through the portal. Soon, infrastructure projects in Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh etc. will be included for guided tours. The world’s highest motorable road at Umling La Pass, state-of-the-art bi-lane Sela Tunnel and Nechiphu Tunnel are among the projects which will be included.

During the inauguration, the first ticket from the website was presented to the Raksha Mantri by Director General Border Roads (DGBR) Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry.

Rajnath Singh, in his address, appreciated the efforts of the BRO in developing the portal and exuded confidence that the website will go a long way in boosting tourism in far-flung areas.

He made special mention of the setting up of BRO Cafes at 75 places in far-flung areas, expressing confidence that these cafes will provide basic amenities to the travellers, promote tourism in remote areas and strengthen the local economy. He also praised the BRO for constructing more than 60,000 kilometres of roads, 850 major bridges, 19 airstrips and four tunnels over the last six decades, thereby playing a vital role in nation building through infrastructure development in remote and inaccessible areas.

Pointing out the willingness of people, especially the youth, to connect with the subjects related to defence, Rajnath Singh urged the officials of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to devise a plan to promote defence tourism.

Birbhum Violence: Calcutta High Court Hands Over Case to CBI

On Friday, 25 March, the Calcutta High Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to take over the case regarding the violence in Birbhum district of West Bengal, in which eight people were burned to death following the murder of TMC panchayat leader Bhadu Sheikh at a crossroad near the village of Bogtui.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s national convener of the IT cell Amit Malviya welcome the decision of the Calcutta High Court and said he is grateful to the HC for ordering the CBI probe. He further said that the Special Investigation Team formed by the West Bengal government inspired no confidence and alleged that it was more like a means to cover up the incident and to protect the TMC leaders.

“Grateful to the Calcutta HC for ordering CBI probe in the Rampurhat massacre. Mamata Banerjee’s admin and SIT constituted by the WB Govt inspired no confidence whatsoever. It seemed more like a means to cover up the crime and protect TMC leaders involved in the ghastly killings,” tweeted Amit Malviya.

Nepal adopts India’s UPI for digital transactions

A government periodical ‘New India Samachar’ in its latest edition said Nepal has adopted the unified payment interface developed by India for digital transactions. Earlier this year, Bhutan also launched a BHIM-UPI based payment system.

“Many countries praised the CoWin app, which was created for vaccination during the first Covid period, and Nepal has now adopted India’s UPI (Unified Payment Interface) for digital transactions. It will bolster interoperable real-time person-to-person (P2P) and person to-merchant (P2M) transactions. As a result of this, the people of Nepal will benefit from the best facility for easy digital payments,” read the article written in New India Samachar.

According to official data provided by the National Payments Corporation of India, Bharat Interface for Money-Unified Payments Interface (BHIM-UPI) has achieved a record of 4,527.9 million digital payment transactions with the value of Rs 8,26,843 crore till February 28, 2022.
