India rejects OIC resolutions; says Pakistan its manipulator

On Thursday India responded to the statements and resolutions adopted in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in Pakistan.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said the statements and resolutions adopted at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation meeting “demonstrate both the irrelevance of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation as a body and role of Pakistan as its manipulator.”

Arindam Bagchi further said that the references that have been made to India are based on falsehoods and misrepresentation.

“References have been made to India that are based on falsehoods and misrepresentation. The absurdity of this body commenting on the treatment of minorities, that too at the instance of a serial violator of human rights like Pakistan, is so evident,” Bagchi said in a statement.

The spokesperson added that the governments who associate themselves with such exercise should realise how it impacts their reputation.

“Nations and Governments that associate themselves with such exercises should realise the impact it has on their reputation,” said Bagchi.

Mamata Banerjee cancels leave of all police personnel for next 10 days

On Thursday Mamata Banerjee announced that all leaves are canceled for all police personnel in all police stations in the state for the next 10 days except for those who are on sick leave. Those who are on leave also have to report to the concerned police station within 24 hours.

The main aim of this announcement is to recover bombs, pistols, ammunition by conducting area-based operations. Even after this, if there is a bomb blast in any police station area, then a notice will be served to the OC of the concerned police station. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she will monitor the matter herself.

PM Modi meets specially-abled artist who paints with his feet, calls him source of inspiration

On Thursday Prime Minister Narendra Modi met specially-abled young Aayush Kundal and lauded him for his paintings. In the post, he also lauded the young artist for the paintings that he created using his feet.

Talking about the experience PM Modi said that meeting with Aayush became an unforgettable moment for him. He further said that to keep getting inspired he is following Aayush on Twitter.

“Meeting Aayush Kundal today became an unforgettable moment for me. The way Aayush mastered the painting and shaped his emotions with his toes is going to inspire everyone. To keep getting inspired, I am following him on Twitter,” tweeted Modi in Hindi.

PM Modi shared the link of Aayush’s YouTube channel and urged everyone to see the paintings of Aayush.

“I urge all of you to definitely see the painting of Aayush Kundal. Aayush has also created a YouTube channel for his painting, which contains different colors of his life,” PM Modi tweeted with the link of Aayush’s YouTube channel.

TMC Delegation Meets Home Minister Amit Shah

On Thursday Trinamool Congress (TMC) delegation led by MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay including Derek O’ Brien, Mahua Moitra met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the Parliament and urged him to remove the West Bengal Governor in view of the Birbhum incident.

In Lok Sabha TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay said that 21 people have been arrested so far in the Birbhum violence matter.

“Issue of Birbhum violence was discussed, PM Modi also commented on it. We’ve had conversation regarding it with Home Minister Amit Shah as well. He talked about stringent punishment being given to perpetrators. 21 people have been arrested so far,” Sudip Bandyopadhyay said in LS.

Meanwhile, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee met and spoke with the victim’s family members and gave them Rs 5 lakh compensation to each 10 affected families. She also announced an extra Rs 2 lakh for each household to rebuild homes burnt down in the incident. One member of each family will also get a job, she said.

Sambit Patra questions Mamata Banerjee on the massacre in Birbhum

BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra on Thursday addressed a press conference at BJP headquarters.

He made some serious allegations against the ruling party TMC and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee regarding the massacre in Birbhum, West Bengal.

Spokesperson of BJP Sambit Patra said, “Till date, the workers of Mamata Banerjee ji have killed about 200 BJP workers.”

He said that the killings that took place in Birbhum are a matter of concern for the whole of India.

“The killings that took place in Birbhum, Bengal, shook the whole of India. The way 6 women and 2 children were burnt alive in Bengal, it is a matter of concern for the whole of India,” said Sambit Patra.

He alleged that 26 political murders took place in Bengal, in the last week which could’ve been stopped by Mamata Banerjee but she didn’t.

Sambit Patra said, “In the last week, 26 political murders took place in Bengal. Mamata Banerjee should have stopped them, but she didn’t.”

He further added, “In Birbhum, where the brutal killings took place, the women of the place were saying that the police were absent after the incident.”

Meanwhile, the Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankar also called out the ruling party TMC for its ‘Governance’. He said, “This is a shameful event and an indelible scar on Governance. The burning of people alive in a democracy in this manner is very painful. I appeal to the govt to learn the lessons rather than offering defence”.

Mamata Banerjee meets family of people killed in Birbhum, announces Rs 5 lakh compensation

On Thursday afternoon Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived in Rampurhat in Bengal’s Birbhum where eight people were burnt alive by a mob on Tuesday.

She met and spoke with the victims family members and announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to each 10 affected families. She also announced an extra Rs 2 lakh for each household to rebuild homes burnt down in the incident. One member of each family will also get a job, she said.

After the killing of a local Trinamool leader Bhadu Sheikh eight people were burnt to death in Rampurhat on early Tuesday morning after several houses were set on fire.

On Wednesday, the Calcutta High Court stepped in, and ordered the state government to protect witnesses and set up CCTV cameras at the site.

On Wednesday leader of Congress party in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury wrote to President Ram Nath Kovind to impose Article 355 of the Constitution in the Trinamool Congress-ruled West Bengal.

Bengali actor Abhishek Chatterjee passes away at 58, CM Mamata Banerjee offers condolences

Abhishek Chatterjee, known for his works in Bengali films, passed away on Thursday, March 24. He was 58-years-old. Abhishek was unwell for some time now. He complained of uneasiness in the stomach on Wednesday during the shooting of a non-fiction show.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condoled the sudden death of Abhishek Chatterjee on Twitter.

“Sad to know of the untimely demise of our young actor Abhishek Chatterjee. Abhishek was talented and versatile in his performances, and we shall miss him. It is a great loss for TV serials and our film industry. My condolences to his family and friends,” she wrote on Twitter.

Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar also tweeted his condolences saying, “Anguished at the sad and untimely demise of young actor Abhishek Chatterjee . In his death we have lost talented and versatile actor. He will be missed by all. Great loss for film & TV industry.  My thoughts are with his wife, daughter and friends. RIP”

Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim also condoled the untimely death of Abhishek Chatterjee.

“Deeply pained by the un-timely demise of talented & young actor of our Bengal film industry Abhishek Chatterjee. A strong personality both on screen & off it, he will be missed us and his countless admirers and followers. My deepest condolences. May his soul Rest in Peace,” tweeted Firhad Hakim.

India slams China’s foreign minister Wang Yi on his Kashmir comments at OIC

India has reacted sharply to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s statement on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir at a recent session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that Jammu & Kashmir are entirely the internal affairs of India and China has no locus standi to comment on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

“We reject the uncalled reference to India by the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his speech at the Opening Ceremony. Matters related to the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir are entirely the internal affairs of India. Other countries including China have no locus standi to comment. They should note that India refrains from public judgement of their internal issues,” said Arindam Baghchi.

The strong response from India came after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in his speech at the OIC meeting, said, “On the Kashmir issue, we have heard the voices of many Islamic friends again today and China has the same desire for this.”

Yi’s remarks on Kashmir were in response to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s keynote address at the 48th Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC at the Parliament House.

India reports 1,938 fresh Covid-19 cases, 67 deaths in last 24 hours

According to the Union health ministry’s updated data on Thursday morning, India has reported 1,938 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 0.35% and the Daily Positivity rate is also reported to be 0.29%.

The active caseload declined to 22,427. Total 2,531 people recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, increasing the total number to 4,24,75,588.

67 Covid-19 deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s death toll up to 5,16,672.

Meanwhile, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 182.23 crores.  Vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 72 lakh (72,17,166) children have been administered the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Precaution doses have been given to 2,21,21,816 people so far. Of these, 43,88,402 were given to healthcare workers, 67,20,473 to frontline workers and 1,10,12,941 to people above the age of 60 years.

Meanwhile, all existing Covid restrictions imposed by the National Disaster Management Authority are set to be removed on March 31. On Wednesday the Ministry of Home Affairs said that the Disaster Management Act will no longer be invoked for Covid-safety measures. However, masks will still have to be worn in public places and social distancing has to be maintained.

Former Chief Justice of India RC Lahoti passes away at 81; PM Modi, Law Minister Rijiju condole demise

On Wednesday evening the former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ramesh Chandra Lahoti died at a hospital in Delhi. The former CJI was 81 years old.

Justice Lahoti was appointed as the 35th chief justice of India on June 1, 2004. He retired on November 1, 2005.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condoled the sudden death of CJI Ramesh Chandra Lahoti. PM Modi said that CJI Ramesh Chandra Lahoti will be remembered for his remarkable contributions to the judiciary.

“Anguished by the passing away of former CJI Shri RC Lahoti Ji. He will be remembered for his contributions to the judiciary and emphasis on ensuring speedy justice to the underprivileged. Condolences to his family and well-wishers. Om Shanti,” tweeted PM Modi.

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju condoled the death of Chief Justice Lahoti and said that he reached the highest position of judiciary because of his ability, knowledge and wisdom.

“Saddened to hear the passing away of Shri RC Lahoti, former Chief Justice of India. He rose from a humble background and reached the highest position of our country’s judiciary because of his ability, knowledge and wisdom. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family,” tweeted Kiren Rijiju.
