Babul Supriyo calls his BJP rival Keya Ghosh ‘Ignorant’

The BJP on Friday announced Agnimitra Paul against TMC’s star candidate Shatrughan Sinha and Keya Ghosh against Babul Supriyo as its candidates for the by-elections to the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency and the Ballygunge Assembly segment, respectively. Both by-elections are to be held on April 12.

On Saturday Babul Supriyo took to his Twitter to target Ghosh after she claimed that she did not consider Supriyo to be a strong opponent.

Supriyo said that Ghosh doesn’t know that over confidence is dangerous.

“I am not surprised Keya Ghosh doesn’t know that over confidence is dangerous,” Surpiyo tweeted in Bengali.

“She is ignorant about history and doesn’t know that changing a party once cannot be compared with changing shirts,” he further wrote.

To Ghosh’s claim that she was hundred per cent sure of victory Supriyo countered that she dowsn’t know the meaning of 100 per cent.

Supriyo tweeted, “With limited knowledge in maths, she doesn’t know the meaning of 100 per cent.”

Supriyo has already started attending small closed-door meetings in Ballygunge.

CM Mamata Banerjee Declares Rescheduled West Bengal HS Exam Dates

Mamata Banerjee on Thursday announced the revised Higher Secondary examination schedule in the wake of by-elections in the Asansol Lok Sabha seat and Ballygunge assembly constituency.

The class XII board examinations were scheduled to be held between 2 and 26 April. Later the by-polls were announced to be held on 12 April and the counting of the votes was to be done on 16 April. So the state government had to revise the exam schedule.

CM Mamata Banerjee announced that the first Bengali language test will be held on 2 April. The second language test will be held on 4 April and the vocational examination on 5 April. There will be no examination from 6 to 15 April due to by-polls.

According to the new routine, the exams would start on April 2 and will conclude on April 27. The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination will be held on 30 April instead of 23 April.

PM Modi, Mamata Banerjee extend Holi wishes to Nation

On Friday Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted everyone on the occasion of Holi and wished that the “festival brings every colour of happiness in their lives.”

“Wishing you all a very Happy Holi. May this festival of colors, a symbol of mutual love, affection, and brotherhood, bring every color of happiness in your life,” PM Modi said in a tweet in Hindi.

West Bengal chief minister also greeted everyone on the occasion of Holi and said that “festival of colours usher in peace and happiness in all.”

Mamata Banerjee greeted everyone on Twitter and said,“Wishing all a very Happy Holi. May the festival of colours usher in peace and happiness in all. May the message of diversity, amity, and equality inspire us.”

Several ministers including Home minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim also greeted everyone on the occasion of Holi.

“Wishing everyone a very Happy Holi. May this great festival of colours, joy, and happiness infuse happiness, peace, good fortune, and new energy in everyone’s life,” tweeted Amit Shah.

Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim also tweeted out on the occasion of Holi and said, “Wishing all a very Happy & Colourful Holi. May the day be filled with vibrant memories of joy & laughter with friends & family to be cherished forever.”

Twitter handle of statistics ministry hacked briefly; name and display photo changed to Elon Musk

On Thursday afternoon the Twitter handle of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation appears to be have been briefly compromised, with its display name and display photo changed to that of the Tesla chief Elon Musk.

The account has been recovered after sometime and the ministry said that any post or reply from the account on Thursday till 3 pm are neither related to MoSPI nor on behalf of the Ministry.

“It is to inform to all concerned that certain cyber security issues were noticed in the MoSPI Twitter account @GoIStats on today. Any post & reply pushed / posted from this account on today till 3.00 PM are neither related to MoSPI nor on behalf of the Ministry,” Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation tweeted after the recovery of their Twitter handle.

Statistics Ministry’s account hacking comes a little over two months after the Twitter handle of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was hacked briefly changing the name of the page to Elon Musk.

TMC government turned down NSO’s offer to sell Pegasus spyware: Mamata Banerjee

On Thursday West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee claimed that four-five years ago, Israeli cyber intelligence company, NSO Group, came to the state police department to sell the spyware Pegasus at a cost of Rs 25 crore.

The TMC supremo said that she turned down the offer because it could have been used in a problematic manner. She said that it could have been used to exploit politically and targeted judges and officials.

“They (NSO Group) had come to our police department 4-5yrs ago to sell their machine (Pegasus spyware) & demanded Rs 25cr; I turned it down as it could have been used politically, against judges/officials, which is not acceptable,” said Banerjee.

India’s strategies ensured better management of Omicron surge than many countries: Mansukh Mandaviya

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr Mansukh Mandaviya delivered the keynote address at a webinar with NITI Aayog and more than 200 NGOs and Civil Society Organizations that have worked at the grassroots during the pandemic. The webinar was titled “India’s Public Health Response to manage COVID-19”.

“The management of the COVID19 pandemic, and especially the recent Omicron surge, has strongly demonstrated to the world the power of strong political will, self-reliance through Atma Nirbharta, innovation powered by technology, shared goals and collaborative efforts through a “Whole of Government” and “Whole of Society” approach,” said Mandaviya.

The Union Minister emphasized that “India’s strategies of public health response have resulted in better management of Omicron surge compared to many other countries”.

At a time when many countries are reporting an increase in a number of daily COVID cases, India’s daily cases have reported a substantial decrease, combined with an increased recovery rate, and high levels of vaccination.

Emphasising the Indian Philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and ‘Shubh Laabh’, he said, “India has not only produced quality and affordable vaccines, we have exported medicines  to more than 150 countries on humanitarian grounds. The Vaccine Maitri program of the Government has been lauded globally.”

Dr Mandaviya expressed deep gratitude to all the grassroots NGOs, stakeholders and CSOs who have worked tirelessly among the communities during the pandemic to support them in various ways. “I seek your continued partnership for connecting with the communities to take healthcare services to them. Your work will be pivotal in enhancing awareness and accelerating uptake of e-health services (such as eSanjeevani, and tele-health) among the masses”, he stated.

PM Modi addresses valedictory function at LBSNAA; says, India has to develop itself at faster pace

On Thursday the Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Valedictory Function of 96th Common Foundation Course at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) today via video conferencing. He also inaugurated the new sports complex and dedicated revamped Happy Valley Complex to the Nation.

The Prime Minister underlined the emerging new world order in the post-pandemic world. He said that the world is looking towards India at this juncture of 21st century.

“In this new world order, India has to increase its role and develop itself at a fast pace”, he said.

He asked the officers to keep in mind the importance of this period with special focus on the ‘biggest goal of the 21st century’ i.e. the goal of Aatmnirbhar Bharat and Modern India. “We can’t afford to lose this opportunity”, he said.

The Prime Minister mentioned the new reforms in the sphere of civil services i.e. Mission Karmyogi and Aarambh Programme. The Prime Minister said that the officers should pray that they should never get an easy assignment as Challenging job has joy of its own.

“The more you think of going to the Comfort Zone, the more you will stop your progress and the progress of the country”, the Prime Minister said.

He also asked the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) related courses and resources in the syllabus as future problems will have a huge element of data science and ability to sift through that data.

Govt issues draft notification to formalise movement of foreign personal vehicles

On Thursday The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) issued a draft notification to formalise the movement of personal vehicles registered in other countries when entering or plying in Indian territory.

In a draft notification, the MoRTH said the vehicle operating in Indian territory shall carry a valid registration certificate.

The vehicle also has to carry a valid insurance policy and driving licence or international driving permit, whichever is applicable. The vehicle also needs valid pollution under control certificate (if applicable in the origin country).

In case the documents are in a language other than English, then an authorized English translation, duly authenticated by the issuing authority, shall be carried along with the original documents.

Motor vehicles registered in any country other than India shall not be permitted to transport local passengers and goods within the territory of India, it added.

Over 3 lakh children in 12-14 age group vaccinated on first day

According to the Union health ministry’s updated data on Thursday morning over 3 lakh children between 12 and 14 years have received their first shot of Covid vaccine taking the total doses administered in the country to over 180.80 crores.

The vaccination started on Wednesday and the vaccine which is being administered to the 12 and 14 years children is Corbevax two doses of which are to be administered 28 days apart.

More than 1.05 crore precaution doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to those aged above 60 years.

On Monday (14 March) the Health Ministry announced plans to expand the programme further to include the 12-14-year age group. The centre also announced that it has decided to remove the condition of co-morbidity for COVID19 Precaution Dose for population over 60 years. With this the entire population above 60 years of age will be eligible for precaution doses of COVID19 vaccine.

1.75 Crore Houses Completed Under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin

Union Minister of State for Rural Development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in a written reply in Rajya Sabha informed that under the scheme of PM Awaas Yojana-Gramin, 2.28 crore houses have been sanctioned to the beneficiaries, out of which 1.75 crore houses have been completed as of March 9, 2022. The PMAY-G guidelines provides for construction of house within 12 months from the date of sanctioning the same to the beneficiary. The assistance is released to the beneficiary in a minimum of 3 installments linked to various stages of completion like at the time of sanction, foundation, plinth, windowsill, lintel, roof, etc. Since the figures of house sanction and completion are dynamic and there is a gap of 12 months between sanction of house till its completion, therefore, there would always be some gap between the figures of houses sanctioned and houses built during the implementation of the scheme.

During the period of the Covid-19 pandemic induced nation-wide lockdown, all construction activities including construction of houses under PMAY-G were also affected which retarded the pace of construction of PMAY-G houses. Besides, the delays are also due to delay in release of Central & State Share from State Treasury to State Nodal Account of PMAY-G, cases of the unwillingness of beneficiaries to complete the construction, migration, disputed succession of deceased beneficiaries, delay in allotment of land to landless beneficiaries by the States/UTs and at times those occuring on account of General/Assembly/Panchayat elections, unavailability of building materials etc.

Under the scheme, the highest number of houses constructed during the financial year 2021-22 (as of March 9, 2022) is in Uttar Pradesh (10,22,998) followed by West Bengal and Bihar with 8,53,423 and 5,30,255 houses respectively.
