Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar on Wednesday told the Parliament that the government has “no record” of the deaths of the farmers who camped out at Delhi borders protesting against the now-repealed three farm laws.
To the question of whether it proposes to provide financial assistance to the kin of farmers who died during the agitation Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar said “The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare has no record in the matter and hence the question does not arise”.
Reacting to this statement Leader of Opposition Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge said to the ANI reporter, “This is farmers’ insult. More than 700 farmers lost their lives during protests against 3 farm laws. How can Centre say that they don’t have any record of it?”
The farmer unions claim that over 700 farmers lost their lives while protesting in Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur borders during the year-long protest against the three farm laws. The three farm laws were repealed on the first day of the Winter session of parliament.
Even though the three farm laws have been repealed BKU leader Rakesh Tikait said that the farmers will continue the agitation till the government gives a legal guarantee on the MSP and withdraws police cases lodged against protesting farmers.

Vivekanand Gupta, a BJP leader in Mumbai has filed a complaint against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. The complaint was for allegedly singing the national anthem while being seated and ‘abruptly stopping after four or five verses’ according to a report by news agency ANI.
Vivekanand Gupta who filed the complaint tweeted “My Police complaint to @CPMumbaiPolice to register FIR against #MamataBanerjee for showing utter disrespect to National Anthem. It’s an offense under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 and @HMOIndia order of 2015.”
On Wednesday she addressed a press conference, during which she sang the national anthem, but stopped midway and concluded by saying “Jai Maharashtra Jai Bengal Jai Bharat”
Amit Malviya tweeted about the matter “Our national anthem is one of the most powerful manifestations of our national identity. The least people holding public office can do is not demean it. Here is a mutilated version of our national anthem sung by Bengal CM. Is India’s opposition so bereft of pride and patriotism?”

Khoribari- Under Khoribari police station, near Panitanki Simultala Asian Highway-2, on Tuesday night a bike crashed after losing control. The bike driver died in the accident. According to the information received, while going towards Naxalbari late on Tuesday night, a bike crashed near Panitanki Simultala as it entered a shop after losing control. The bike driver died in the accident. As soon as the information was received, the police from Khoribari police station reached the place and took possession of the dead body. Taking further action, the Khoribari Police Station sent the body to North Bengal Medical College for post-mortem.

The Rajya Sabha on the first day of its business for the Winter Session on Monday suspended 12 of its members. The 12 MPs include Elamaram Kareem from CPM, Phulo Devi Netam, Chhaya Verma, R Bora, Rajamani Patel, Syed Nasir Hussain, Akhilesh Prasad Singh from INC, Binoy Viswam from CPI, Dola Sen & Shanta Chhetri from TMC and Priyanka Chaturvedi, Anil Desai from Shiv Sena.
“From District Court to Supreme Court, an accused is heard even there, lawyers are provided for them too, sometimes Govt officials are sent to take their version. Here our version wasn’t taken” said Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi to ANI.
This is totally undemocratic; the murder of democracy & the Constitution. We’ve not been given the opportunity to be heard. This is a one-sided, biased, vindictive decision. Opposition parties haven’t been consulted said Chhaya Verma to ANI.
SP MP Jaya Bachchan also said, “In so many years that I’ve been here, this is the first time I’m seeing this kind of environment. Bill was passed in absolute chaos. I feel that a special Parliament protection bill should now be passed. Small parties don’t get the chance to speak” as reported by ANI

The Union Health Ministry on Sunday, 28 November, announced revised travel guidelines for international passengers. In order to prevent the spread of the new COVID-19 variant, ‘Omicron’ has been classified as a ‘Variant of Concern’ by the World Health Organization (WHO). The new guidelines will come into effect from December 1, Wednesday.
The new guidelines mandate any international travelers submit their 14 days’ travel history and upload negative COVID test results on the Air Suvidha portal before the journey.
Further, travelers from “at-risk” countries will have to go undergo a Covid test and wait for the result in the airport. If reported negative then they will have to follow home quarantine for 7 days and have a Covid test again on the 8th day. Then further self-monitor for 7 days.

The ‘at-risk countries include the United Kingdom, South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Israel.

Travelers from countries excluding those countries at risk will be allowed to leave the airport and shall self-monitor their health for 14 days post-arrival.

The winter session of Parliament began on Monday and will conclude on 23rd December, during which as many as 26 bills are expected to be tabled which included the repeal of three farm laws. The Lok Sabha passed the Farm Laws Repeal Bill without any discussion after it was introduced by Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
Before the bill was passed Trinamool Congress MPs staged a protest at the Mahatma Gandhi statue, calling for a discussion over Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021, ANI reported.

“This (Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021 passed by Lok Sabha) is a tribute to all 750 farmers who lost their lives during the agitation. The protest will continue as other issues including MSP are still pending,” BKU leader Rakesh Tikait told news agency ANI.
Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted, “The three anti-agriculture laws were passed in Parliament without discussion and have been repealed without discussion.
A debate would make the PM and BJP answerable for conspiracy to sell the farming sector at the altar of Crony Friends, Sacrifice of 700 farmers, Not giving MSP.”

The BJP has swept the civic polls in Tripura, bagging 217 of 222 seats on which elections were held on November 25. The CPM has won three seats, the Trinamool and TIPRA Motha have won one seat each.
Of the 334 total seats which include Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) with 51 wards, 13 municipal councils, and six Nagar panchayats, the BJP has won 329. Polling took place on November 25 for 222 seats.
BJP won all of the 51 seats of the AMC as opposition party TMC and CPI(M) failed to open their account.
CPI(M) has won one seat each in Ambassa Nagar Panchayat in Dhalai District, Panisagar Nagar Panchayat in North district, and Kailashahar Municipal Council in Unakoti district. The TMC won one seat in Ambassa. Tirpha Moti, a regional party has won one seat in the same area.
After the results, Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb tweeted, “Much gratitude to all people of the state for showing immense trust in the leadership of Hon. PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji, under his guidance we are continuously working for the betterment of 37 Lakh people of the state.”
General Secretary of All India Trinamool Congress Abhishek Banerjee said, ”It is exceptional for a party beginning with negligible presence to successfully contest municipal elections and emerge as the principal opposition in the state with more than 20% vote share.”
“We stand firmly as the strongest Opposition in the state,” says TMC in a tweet.

At least 18 people were killed and 5 others injured in a road accident that took place in West Bengal’s Phulbari area of Nadia district late on Saturday night.
As per officials of the Hanskhali police station, people in a matador car were on its way to the Nabadeep crematorium to cremate a body from Bagda of North 24 Parganas and the matador hit a stone-laden truck in Nadia district which was parked on the side of the road. At least 18 people died on spot, as reported by ANI.
Governor of West Bengal Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday expressed sympathy about the deaths and said “Deeply pained at reported death of 18 people and 5 others injured in Nadia District after the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a truck parked on the side of the road”.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences on the loss of lives in the Nadia road accident and said “Government of West Bengal will extend every necessary assistance and support to the kin of the victims. We are beside you in this sad hour.”
Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his condolences on the accident and said “My condolences to the people who lost their lives in this accident. God help them in this difficult situation. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.

On Saturday, the Bengaluru Police urged that comedian Munawar Faruqui’s show, scheduled for November 28 at Good Shepherd Auditorium, be canceled. In a letter to the organizers, Police stated, “There is credible information that several organizations are opposing this stand-up comedy show and it could create chaos and disturb the public peace and harmony, which may lead to law and order problems.”

In his statement, he said that his show on Sunday, which had sold more than 600 tickets, was canceled under threats to vandalize the venue.
He wrote, “Putting me in jail for a joke I never did to canceling my show which has nothing problematic in it. This is unfair”.

” We do have a censor certificate of the show, and it’s clearly nothing problematic in the show! We called off 12 shows in the last 2 months because of the threats to venue and audience”
Meanwhile, civil society members have questioned the role of police in not upholding law and order and protecting free speech.
