Child Trafficking Racket Busted In South Dinajpur, 8 Arrested Across Different Districts

Police are trying to reach the root of a child trafficking incident by interrogating the eight people who were arrested by the police.

The incident took place in Patiram police station area of ​​South Dinajpur where on 10 April, a man and a woman were caught by the locals while trying to sell a newborn baby there.

On April 10, Patiram Police Station in South Dinajpur arrested a man and a woman named Shovon Sardar (36) and Pinki Manna (33) from Patiram Roller intersection after receiving a tip-off about child trafficking.

And on Thursday, 14 April, Patiram police raided several places near Kolkata and successfully arrested six more accused on charges of child trafficking. Police also were able to rescue a one-month-old baby.

6 people police were arrested in the incident on 14 April, including 5 women and one man.

District police superintendent Rahul Dey and other high-ranking district police officials came to Patiram police station to interrogate the detainees.

The arrested are Sraboni Adhikari (33), Swapna Sardar (33), Purnima Chowdhury (22) and Anita Jhunjhunwala (23). The victims’ homes are in the vicinity of Kolkata. Ajay Kumar Sharma (42) and Mishu Sharma (33), a couple from Howrah, have been arrested by Patiram Police for buying a child. Patiram police took the six arrested persons to Balurghat district court on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, a high-level officer of the district police came to Patiram police station for the interrogation of the detainees. A CID team also came to take a report of the incident. According to police sources, the names of three or four more people were found after interrogation.
