Hanskhali Rape Case: CM Mamata Banerjee Slams Police For ‘Negligence’

Talking about the in the Hanskhali rape case, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed that the incident took place due to the negligence of the police.

On Wednesday, Banerjee met all the district police superintendents, district magistrates and other officials through video conferencing.

Banerjee asked the Police Superintendents of Krishnanagar and Ranaghat, “How did the incident happen in Hanskhali? Why didn’t you get the news before? Why will the government suffer for your negligence? How did it take you three or four days? If ICs don’t look right, then what is the point of having IC?”

She further claimed that Hanskhali case was a suicide case which was turned into a rape case and alleged that BJP and CPI(M) are trying to defame Bengal.

The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested three accused in the Hanskhali teen’s rape and murder case. Braja Goala, the son of a local TMC leader and the main accused was arrested by the agency on Sunday.

With a woman as CM, even a single crime against women is shameful: TMC MP Saugata Roy

On Thursday while attending the inauguration of a police station in North 24 Pargana TMC MP said that even a single crime against women in Bengal is shameful.

“We are all extremely worried about crime against women and I am not sure if it is due to the media. We must have zero tolerance in in such cases. In a state where we have a woman as the Chief Minister, even one such crime under her leadership is a matter of shame for all of us. I hope the police and administration will be mindful of that fact,” the TMC MP said.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister is facing criticism from different sectors for her remarks on the Hanskhali minor’s rape and death case.

Banerjee questioned if the girl was actually raped or had a love affair that got her pregnant.

“Was she Raped or was she pregnant, or there was some other reason or someone slapped her, or was she ill…Even family knew it was a love affair. If a couple is in a relationship, how can I stop them?” said Mamata Banerjee.

BJP forms fact-finding committee to look into Hanskhali rape case

On Wednesday BJP president J P Nadda formed a five-member fact-finding committee of the party to look into the Hanskhali rape case. The committee will visit the site of the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Nadia in West Bengal to enquire into the incident.

The party said the members of the fact-finding committee are the party’s vice president and MP Rekha Verma, Uttar Pradesh government minister Baby Rani Maurya, Tamil Nadu MLA and BJP’s National President Mahila Morcha Vanathi Srinivasan, Kushbu Sunder, and West Bengal MLA Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury.

The son of a Trinamool Congress gram panchayat member was arrested for the alleged rape of a minor that led to her death. The incident took place in Hanskhali of Nadia. Allegedly, the minor girl was raped by the son of a TMC leader.

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday granted permission to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the Hanskhali rape case.

Bengal Governor Dhankhar Summons Chief Secretary And DGP Over Hanskhali Rape Case & Ram Navami clashes

Concerned over the current law and order situation in West Bengal, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar summoned Chief Secretary and State Police DG to Raj Bhavan. On Tuesday, Governor of West Bengal Jagdeep Dhankhar summoned the Chief Secretary and State Police DG of the state to brief him on the alleged gang rape of the 14-year-old girl in Nadia and also on the alleged atrocities on Ram Bhakts during Ram Navami processions.

“Urgent response of Chief Secretary be sought on alleged gangrape death of 14-year-old girl in Nadia as also atrocities on Ram Bhakats on Ram Navami. Both these issues have been raised today by Leader of Opposition Shri Suvendu Adhikari who called on the undersigned and sought thorough probe. According to LOP both incidents highlight worrisome state of crime against women & nose diving law & order scenario in the state. CS be called upon to render his report on both counts earliest, latest by April 13, 2022,” said Governor on Tuesday.

The two administrative officials have been asked to brief Governor by 4 pm on Wednesday.

“In view of this, both Chief Secretary and the DGP be called upon to brief the undersigned on these incidents, as already indicated, latest by 4 P.M. on April 13, 2022,” Governor added.

 

 

Hanskhali Minor Girl Death: Mamata Banerjee Says, ‘Was She Raped Or Was She Pregnant?’

Speaking at the inauguration of the revamped Milan Mela, in Kolkata on Monday West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raised questions over the reports of a 14-year-old girl who was allegedly raped in Nadia district on April 5.

“Was she Raped or was she pregnant, or there was some other reason or someone slapped her, or was she ill… Even family knew it was a love affair. Everyone in the neighborhood knew. If a couple is in a relationship can I stop it? This is not UP, that I will start a love jihad program. This is their personal freedom. But if there is any misdeed, police will arrest the culprits. One suspect has been arrested already,” said Mamata Banerjee.

The son of a Trinamool Congress gram panchayat member was arrested on Sunday for the alleged rape of a minor that led to her death on April 5. The incident took place in Hanskhali of Nadia. Allegedly, the minor girl was raped by the son of a TMC leader. The girl was bleeding profusely after the rape. She later died and it is alleged that the body of the victim was burnt after that. The accused was arrested within 24 hours of filing the complaint.
