ECI prohibits TMC MLA Naren Chakraborty from campaigning for threatening voters
On Wednesday the Election Commission of India took strict action against Trinamool Congress MLA from Pandabeswar, Narendranath Chakraborty, and prohibited him from campaigning for seven days till April 6.
The prohibition comes after a video went viral that allegedly shows the TMC MLA threatening people who vote for the BJP.
The ECI issued a notice today prohibiting Naren Chakraborty from holding any public meetings, public processions, public rallies, road shows and interviews, public utterances in media from 10:00 AM of 30 March till 8:00 PM of 6 April, 2022.
“The Commission, under Article 324 of the Constitution of India and all other powers enabling in this behalf, orders to prohibit him from holding any public meetings, public processions, public rallies, roadshows and interviews, public utterances in media (electronic, print, social media) etc. in connection with ongoing bye-election for a week i.e. 7 days from 10:00 AM of 30t March, 2022 (Wednesday) till 8:00 PM of 6 April, 2022 (Wednesday),” read the notice from ECI.
This notice comes after a delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party met ECI on Tuesday demanding action against Trinamool Congress MLA Narendranath Chakraborty.
