BGBS 2022: War Of Words Continues Between Mamata Banerjee And Governor

On Wednesday West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee once again exchanged veiled barbs. And this time in front of a global audience at the 6th Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS).

While addressing the Summit, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged the governor to ensure that industrialists are “not disturbed by some agencies”.

“Your excellency, I have a word for you on behalf of all the industry…. I want you to tell centre that we will seek all support from the central government. But please tell Delhi that industrialists should not be disturbed through agencies,” Mamata said.

While, the Governor in his half an hour speech made suggestions like catalyse “development bonhomie”.

“It will be appropriate for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to proactively catalyse and I say so with lot of hope and expectation, the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to catalyse development bonhomie with all concerned as it is imperative to distance development from a partisan stance. A greater reflection of political spectrum of the State in participation in such ventures would surely be motivationally wholesome,” said Governor.

Governor also highlighted the need for governance based on rule of law, he said, “I am sure the Government that elsewhere in the world is alive to the need of investment friendly wholesome eco system in governance, this days all over the world it has become necessity because investors invariably look for political stability, democratic governance, transparent, accountable mechanism and systemic working, coupled with peaceful environment and rule of law.”

Mamata Banerjee Meets Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar Over Birbhum Violence

 

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday met with Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar over the law and order situation in the state. They traversed issues of governance for over an hour in the Raj Bhawan.

Governor Dhankhar who was blocked by the Chief Minister on Twitter, posted a letter inviting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for interaction during the week at Raj Bhawan on the same social media platform on 29 March.

“Recent alarmingly worrisome developments, reflecting increased lawlessness and violence, make it imperative that you spare time earliest for an interaction at Raj Bhavan,” Governor wrote in the letter.

The meeting comes amidst the ongoing investigation by CBI over the Birbhum violence that took place last month. A total of eight people were burnt to death in the Rampurhat area of West Bengal’s Birbhum, following the killing of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Bhadu Sheikh.

Kolkata student leader who abused Aliah University VC arrested; Governor Dhankhar seeks detailed report

On Sunday, Giasuddin Mondal, a student leader, expelled from the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad, was arrested for allegedly threatening and verbally abusing Aliah University Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Ali.

“Police reacted promptly in connection with the recent incident that took place at Aliah University and Giasuddin Mondal has already been arrested. Investigation proceeds,” tweeted West Bengal Police.

In a video that went viral, students can be seen along with Giasuddin using derogatory language towards V-C Mohammad Ali.

Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has called upon Chief Secretary for a full update on the situation.

“Such state of affairs where law violator rogue elements have their way with no fear of law is certainly fearful scenario for law abiders,” wrote Dhankhar on Twitter.

After the arrest happened Governor Dhankhar wrote another tweet and said, “There will be focus on the situation once there is update from Chief Secretary as such shameful incidents call for exemplary consequences and no cover up.”

West Bengal Governor writes to Mamata Banerjee for interaction at Raj Bhavan

Amid the CBI probing of the Birbhum violence case, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday wrote a letter inviting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for interaction during the week at Raj Bhawan.

“Recent alarmingly worrisome developments, reflecting increased lawlessness and violence, make it imperative that you spare time earliest for an interaction at Raj Bhavan,” Governor wrote in the letter.

“Already cliff hanging governance in the state, from the perspective of Constitution and law, has recently been further strained by horrifying incidents of barbarity at Rampurhat and in the hallowed precincts of the Assembly,” read the letter.

Jagdeep Dhankhar said that he is concerned about the public statement to “hit the streets in protest” of Mamata Banerjee. He also said that the CBI investigation of the Rampurhat incident is monitored by the Calcutta HC and any recourse has to be lawful and not on the streets.

 

“I am concerned at your public statement to “hit the streets in protest” if the CBI probe is not in tune with your thought process, since the same is not in sync with the position you adorn. Please bear in mind. the investigation by CBI in the horrific barbarity at Rampurhat is ordered and monitored by the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta. Any recourse thereof has to be lawful and not on streets,” read the letter.

West Bengal: 8 charred bodies recovered from burnt houses, Governor Says “Arson Orgy”

In the early hours of Tuesday eight persons, including two children, died after their houses were gutted in a fire at Rampurhat in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. The incident took place hours after the murder of a Trinamool Congress panchayat leader on Monday.

On Monday around 8.30 pm, TMC panchayat deputy chief of Barshal village, Bhadu Sheikh, was murdered and shortly after the murder, at least eight houses were allegedly set on fire in Bogtui village situated on the outskirts of Rampurhat town.

On Tuesday BJP leaders walked out of the West Bengal Assembly demanding a statement from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the incident.

In a video message posted on West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar’s official Twitter account, he called the incident a “horrifying violence and arson orgy” and said that he has sought an urgent update on the incident from the state’s Chief Secretary.

He strongly condemned the violence in the video and said that he is “considerably pained” and “disturbed”. He further said the incident is indicating “of the nose-diving of law and order in the state.”

गृह मंत्रालय ने अध्यक्ष नड्डा पर हमले के बाद बंगाल के दो अफसर का किया ट्रांसफर,

बीजेपी के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष जेपी नड्डा पर हुए हमले के बाद गृह मंत्रालय ने पश्चिम बंगाल के चीफ सेक्रेटरी और डीजीपी का 14 दिसंबर को ट्रांफर किया है।केंद्रीय मंत्री और बीजेपी के नेता प्रकाश जावड़ेकर ने बताया कि गृह मंत्री अमित शाह ने हमले को लेकर राज्यपाल से स्थिति की रिपोर्ट मांगी थी। प्रकाश जावेड़कर ने कहा कि 10 दिसंबर को  भाजपा के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष के काफिले पर जिस तरह से हमला हुआ, वो बहुत निंदनीय है। गृह मंत्रालय ने रिपोर्ट मंगाई है लेकिन पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार ही ऐसा माहौल बना रही है, ये लोकतंत्र नहीं है। बाकी विपक्षी पार्टियां अब क्यों चुप हैं?

राज्यपाल धनखड़ ने दी चेतावनी, कहा- यदि मुख्यमंत्री अपने रास्ते से भटकेंगी तो मेरा रोल शुरू हो जाएगा

कोलकाता में बीजेपी के राष्ट्रिय अध्यक्ष जेपी नड्डा के काफिले पर हमले को लेकर राज्यपाल जगदीप धनखड़ ने 11 दिसंबर को प्रेस किया।  प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस में राज्यपाल ने सीएम ममता बनर्जी पर हमला बोलते हुए कहा कि उन्हें  संविधान का पालन करना होगा। वह अपने रास्ते से नहीं भटक सकती हैं। राज्य में कानून और व्यवस्था की स्थिति लंबे समय से लगातार बिगड़ रही है। आगे उन्होने कहा कि भारत के संविधान की रक्षा करना मेरी जिम्मेदारी है। यदि मुख्यमंत्री अपने रास्ते से भटकेंगी तो मेरा रोल शुरू हो जाएगा। नड्डा के काफिले पर हमले को लेकर कहा कि 10 दिसंबर को हुई घटना दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण हैं। ये हमारे लोकतांत्रिक ताने-बाने पर एक धब्बा है। मैंने केंद्र सरकार को बेहद परेशान करने वाले घटनाक्रमों के बारे में एक रिपोर्ट भेजी है, जिसकी विषयवस्तु साझा नहीं कर सकता हूं। आगे राज्यपाल ने ममता पर सवाल करते हुए कहा कि राज्य में कौन बाहरी है, उनका इससे क्या मतलब है? क्या भारतीय नागरिक भी बाहरी हैं, ममता को इस तरह का बयान नहीं देना चाहिए। मुख्यमंत्री को आग से नहीं खेलना चाहिए। बाहरी कहना संविधान का अपमान है। बाहरवाला, अंदरवाला कहना एक खतरनाक खेल है। ममता संविधान के हिसाब से काम करें। राज्यपाल ने नड्डा पर हुए हमले का जिक्र करते हुए इस घटना को मानवाधिकार पर हमला बताया। राज्यपाल ने कहा कि ‘मानवाधिकार के दिन हुआ हमला मानवाधिकार पर हमला है। कल हुआ हमला लोकतंत्र पर धब्बा है और बेहद शर्मनाक है। बंगाल में संविधान की मर्यादाएं टूट रही हैं। बंगाल में पुलिस प्रशासन फेल हो गया है। बेलगाम ढंग से कल लोग सड़कों पर उतरे थे। मैंने कल हुए हमले को लेकर डीजीपी को जानकारी दी थी। ममता को कल की घटना के लिए माफी मांगनी चाहिए। उन्हें भाजपा अध्यक्ष पर दिए अपने बयान को वापस लेना चाहिए। वे बदले की भावना से काम कर रही हैं।
