17 dead, 100 missing as sudden floods hits Andhra Pradesh
A heavy downpour wreaked havoc in Andhra Pradesh, leaving at least 30 people killed in flash floods in four Rayalaseema districts, including Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool, and Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. More than 100 persons are feared to have been washed away in separate incidents in the four districts.
The sudden flood is the result of incessant rains started on Thursday evening which is triggered by the deep depression formed over the Bay of Bengal,
About seven National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed to lead the search and rescue operations, besides teams from the police, revenue and fire department. Rescue teams pulled out a dozen bodies after three buses were washed away in Andhra Pradesh on Friday. At least 18 other people were still missing.
As heavy rains continue in Andhra Pradesh, the South Central Railways has said that train services in the two states will likely be affected on Saturday, November 20, as several districts face flooding. The trains are likely to be diverted, rescheduled, partially canceled, or canceled as per the local situation, the Railways said in a release. The South Central Railway (SCR) had already canceled and diverted about 44 trains in various sections due to incessant rains and damage of tracks.
