BJP Sweeps Tripura Civic Elections, wins 329 out of 334 seats

The BJP has swept the civic polls in Tripura, bagging 217 of 222 seats on which elections were held on November 25. The CPM has won three seats, the Trinamool and TIPRA Motha have won one seat each.
Of the 334 total seats which include Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) with 51 wards, 13 municipal councils, and six Nagar panchayats, the BJP has won 329. Polling took place on November 25 for 222 seats.
BJP won all of the 51 seats of the AMC as opposition party TMC and CPI(M) failed to open their account.
CPI(M) has won one seat each in Ambassa Nagar Panchayat in Dhalai District, Panisagar Nagar Panchayat in North district, and Kailashahar Municipal Council in Unakoti district. The TMC won one seat in Ambassa. Tirpha Moti, a regional party has won one seat in the same area.
After the results, Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb tweeted, “Much gratitude to all people of the state for showing immense trust in the leadership of Hon. PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji, under his guidance we are continuously working for the betterment of 37 Lakh people of the state.”
General Secretary of All India Trinamool Congress Abhishek Banerjee said, ”It is exceptional for a party beginning with negligible presence to successfully contest municipal elections and emerge as the principal opposition in the state with more than 20% vote share.”
“We stand firmly as the strongest Opposition in the state,” says TMC in a tweet.
