New Delhi: The CBI has begun an investigation into the post-election violence in West Bengal. According to a recent update, the CBI has filed nine new FIRs in the investigation, with many more on the way. The team also arrived at the home of Abhijeet Sarkar, who was killed during the unrest in Bengal, last week. The investigation is likely to go more quickly now that all of the SIT teams are in Bengal. The Calcutta High Court stated that the investigation into West Bengal’s post-election violence should be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). According to the Calcutta High Court’s judgment, the West Bengal government is designated to handle the compensation claims as soon as possible. The CBI special teams will be positioned in New Delhi and would look into incidents of rape and assault in connection to the post Poll Violence in West Bengal. CBI and SIT have been given six weeks to produce a status report for the same. All other cases identified by the NHRC committee were also submitted to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for investigation.
