PM Modi, President pay tribute to Babasaheb on his 131st birth anniversary
April 14 is marked as Ambedkar Jayanti to honour Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, one of the most remarkable figures of the 20th century. Dr. Ambedkar also called Babasaheb Ambedkar, was an Indian jurist, politician, economist, and social reformer.
Dr. Ambedkar is also known as the ‘father of the Indian Constitution’. In 1947 he became the law minister of the government of India and took a leading part in the framing of the Indian constitution.
On the occasion of Dr. Ambedkar’s 131st birth anniversary, President Ram Nath Kovind paid his tributes to Babasaheb Ambedkar and tweeted, “Humble tribute to Babasaheb on Ambedkar Jayanti! A strong advocate of social justice, Babasaheb laid the foundation of modern India as a constitutional architect. Let us do our part in building an inclusive society following his ideal of ‘Indian first, Indian later and Indian last’.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to Dr. Ambedkar. Taking it to Twitter, the PM said, “Tributes to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on his Jayanti. He has made indelible contributions to India’s progress. This is a day to reiterate our commitment to fulfil his dreams for our nation.”
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also took to Twitter to pay her tributes to the ‘father of the Indian Constitution’.
“My sincere tributes to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. May his life and works continue to inspire us to work tirelessly for the good of all and to uphold the cardinal principles of our Constitution.” Tweeted Mamata Banerjee.
The Maharashtra government unveiled a 72-feet tall statue dedicated to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on Wednesday in Latur city. The state government named the statue the ‘Statue of Knowledge’.
